Nezar Raees Associates has been retained by Johnson Property Group in a USD 133 million compensation claim for alleged defamatory statements filed by Bahraini parties at the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution in Bahrain.

Nezar Raees Associates advises Karvy Computershare Private Limited (KCPL), presently India’s largest registrar and transfer agent, on its acquisition of a majority stake in Bahrain Shares Registering Company WLL (BSRC) from KPMG Fakhro.

BSRC is the largest securities registry company in Bahrain, serving ninety per cent of listed companies in Bahrain, and the acquisition is part of KCPL Middle East expansion strategy.

Nezar Raees Associates instructed by a group of owners at Durrat Al Bahrain Resort in a dispute over the ownership of common areas in the Resort. With the developer claiming ownership of the common areas in the Resort, owners of villas in the Resort have filed legal proceedings seeking a court order asserting their ownership in common of the common areas in the Resort.

Mustafa El Ghonaimi, Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution at Nezar Raees Associates, comments "Ownership of common areas in the Resort is determined by Article 815(b) of the Civil Law which provides that ownership of common areas rests with the owners in common unless reserved by the developer".

El Ghonaimi adds "Our review of the Sale Purchase Agreement executed by the owners revealed that no such reservation was included in the Sale Purchase Agreement. Accordingly, ownership of the common areas in the resort rests with the owners".
